Hurricane Bud roaming the Pacific.

With a perpetual government budget crunch and shameless American marketing, selling naming rights to tropical systems seems like a logical next step. Imagine the news... Hurricane heads for Florida while Tropical Storm Allstate makes landfall over Texas. Brilliant! Well, right now Hurricane Bud is whipping up foam in the Eastern Pacific. Hmmm, so Bud was the B storm... I think Tropical Storm Corona should be next to strike Mexico.

NHC forecast track

Right now Bud is looking well organized on the satellite but convection is not all that deep. Fortunately this hurricane is tracking well out to sea. Don't look for Bud to be a threat to anyone besides shipping interests.

On a personal note, I am in North Carolina right now and will be driving to New Orleans tomorrow. I will remain on the road for the next week, but the rest of the crew will still be covering all the excitement. At least in the Pacific things are looking exciting again! While there is no word from NHC, the Navy Research Lab site is already reporting TD4 in the Eastern Pacific.
