Recently Tropical Storm Delta's center of circulation has become exposed and caused the storm to weaken substantially. Delta is now a minimal tropical storm with sustained winds of 40 mph and a central pressure of 997 mb. Delta is moving towards the northeast at 9 mph but remains over 1200 miles away from land.
The only area of deep convection left is on the east side of the storm. Surprisingly this convection appears to be much stronger than anything seen to date in the storm. However, since it does not wrap around the storm, it is doubtful that this will lead to any substantial strengthening. Delta is moving over increasingly cool waters that are depriving the storm of fuel. Delta is expected to weaken to a tropical depression within the next day and then transition to an extratropical system within two days.
