Tornado survivors realize that their county really wasn't StormReady

EVANSVILLE, Ind., Nov. 7 - As firefighters paced up and down a cornfield here on Monday, searching for more bodies in a wild tangle of metal, insulation and furniture left behind by the weekend's tornado, those who had survived the storm kept coming back to a question: Who heard the warning sirens go off?

Some said they had, indeed, heard a distant blare, but were uncertain what to do in the less than 15 minutes they had before the tornado hit about 2 a.m. on Sunday. Others said they had never heard anything at all and had just awoken from their sleep in a pile of rubble, some with rain pounding down into their bedrooms through gaping holes.
