Tropical Storm Beta forms in Caribbean (updated)

Tropical Storm Beta has now formed in the Caribbean. Satellite imagery indicates that Beta contains a solid central burst of convection and will likely continue to strengthen rapidly.

As of 5:00pm EDT, TS Beta is listed with winds of 60 mph and a central pressure of 997 mb. This is consistent with the latest Dvorak intensity estimates. NHC is forecasting Beta to reach hurricane strength before landfall over Nicaragua.

Satellite imagery now indicates that Beta has developed a solid central core of convection. I am now forecasting for rapid intensification to a hurricane. Check out microwave / visible overlay below and you can clearly see that core at the center of circulation.
