Tropical Depression 17 forms in the Atlantic

Everyone should say hello to Tropical Depression 17! The storm is currently located a little over 300 miles east of Barbados and right now the track is a little uncertain. The models have no intialized this system very well, they are disagreeing on tracks, and steering currents are very weak.

The system is expected to stay over very warm water with very little shear. This should lead to steady intensification and the system is forecast to become a hurricane in a couple days. A recon flight will visit the system today, and at that time we could see Tropical Storm Philippe be named.
