High winds knock out power to thousands in the Northeast

A strong cold front is pushing across much of the Northeast today. New England is currently experiencing a heavy line of thunderstorms associated with the cold front. The front has a very impressive signature on the IR satellite imagery, as you can see it stretching down to the Gulf of Mexico.

Earlier today a Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued for much of Upstate New York. The Storm Prediction Center is reporting many high wind damage reports from across New York.

The storm left 69,000 customers across New York without power. In New England, at least an additional 64,000 customers also lost power. NWS BOX has also published some storm damage reports.
